I prefer loose-leaf textbooks because I can put them in my own binder so all of my textbooks match--just an organizational preference. I ordered it used, like I have from Amazon hundreds of times for other novels and textbooks. It is my own fault for not checking the dimensions of this loose-leaf version, but I have never encountered the loose-leaf version being so much smaller than typical loose-leafs. Therefore, I can't put in my binder and the binding the seller sent it in that was made to fit this format was very banged up. That being said, the text itself is just fine.

Easy to read, great definitions, and concise. Everything I'm looking for in a Psychology text book. As a student, I don't want to have to read entire chapters to get the most necessary information before lecture, and this book provides easy to spot definitions and gives great summaries. This textbook actually made me want to read the chapter after lecture (which almost never happens!).

This textbook is one of the easier reads in terms of standard textbook materials.It has up-to-date information, has a large number of both modern and classic examples to make sure that students actually have a grasp on the sometimes complicated material they are reading, reads very easily, has several useful charts and graphics, and doesn't feel dry at all.The writer of this textbook very clearly has the goal of keeping students engaged, and being a student myself, I feel that they succeed with their goal.If you are an instructor looking for a Methods of Research textbook that your students actually won't mind reading, that isn't highly outdated and dry, and that actually engages your students: look no further than this textbook. This is a modern psychology educator's gold mine.

This is actually I really good book. It is written for research consumers instead of research producers. Things are well explained and it is easy to follow. I am a psych major with a focus on ABA and this is one of the best textbooks I have used for my college psychology classes.

Pretty good for the statistic part of Psychology degree. It got a little boring and hard to follow about mid-way, but this is where the heavier statistics part starts. Me and math = love hate relationship. Love to hate, but doing it anyways.

This was one of the easiest textbooks I have ever read through. The concepts are clear and concise, and the chapters are fairly organized with easy to spot headers and satisfactory chart and graph examples; I've never had a problem with them. The author tends to repeat previous information sometimes which is a definite plus for me with the gradual reinforcement. Examples are modern and relevant. I actually kept this book instead of selling it off for future reference in my major.

The text gives plenty of examples, so it is more interesting to read than the average text book, but the material was poorly organized and the key concepts not always well defined. I tend to use textbooks as a reference, not read them from front to back, and was frustrated by the writing and organizational style.

The information and writing is great but the quality of the book is terrible. My binding cracked and my book is in pieces the 4th time I opened it up.

Christian Henry Tobler has been a longtime student of swordsmanship, focused on the study of medieval Fechtbucher (fight books) since the late 1990s. I bought this book after I started a HEMA class on longswords based on the German texts. Much of the class went too quickly, as I couldn't remember the difference between a zwerchhau and schielhau. This book together with Sword Fighting by Herbert Schmidt truly helped, and made for great souvenirs of the class.There is lots of overlap with Shcmidt's book, but this one well designed drills that will get the moves committed to muscle memory. While I recommend both books for anyone interested in learning HEMA, I would probably rank Tobler's book about half a star higher because of the drills.

I have many books on Longsword in my library. Tobler has been the only author that is able to take the historic information and present it into a format that teaches the reader the proper techniques. Even fine authors, such as Guy Windsor, will stumble in their writings as they try to present their approach to this martial art.Tobler's interpretations and presentations require one reading to gain knowledge. Get this book.

I love this book. Our group had a single copy of the out of print 1st edition, which was a great resource, and this second edition is even better. There are a few changes--which really shows how our understanding of longsword is evolving. Even if you have the 1st edition, I recommend this purchase.If you can find a group, terrific! If you can't, the book is clear enough to work with on solo practice. It's pretty detailed, so don't expect to understand it all the first go-through, but it's worth reading a time or two.

Great book for HEMA, not just sword fighting. Lots of pictures, large book, very deep. Has sections of fighting techniques without a long-sword as well

I've been taking a medieval martial arts course at a local fencing school for a little over half a year. The class covers German Longsword, Messer, some hafted weaponry based off Hans Talhoffer's work plus sword and buckler from MS I.33. I picked this book up about a month ago from Amazon and I was very pleased with it. It provides a good reinforcement for the lessons I am learning in class and its very useful to have a practical guide on hand. The descriptions are clear and straightforward and the photos are very useful. Being a software developer by trade I got a kick out of the flowcharts detailing the decision tree for the master cuts at the end of the chapters. All in all I'm glad I picked up this book.

This book, or rather this manual makes me smile, and sigh, "at last."Tobler, has constructed a fine tool to teach his students and a great aid to us.The book is well laid out, with charts and corresponding photographs, it is however not a stand alone product.I am quite sure one would think it goes with "Secrets of German Medieval Swordsmanship", and that would be correct. I would suggest however that it is used as a Companion to David Lindholm's "Sigmund Ringeck's Knightly Art of the Longsword", and Tobler's "Secrets" can be used as the source.With these books most of the practicing WMA community's bookshelves are looking more Respectable, or at least one can tear them both apart and construct one's own drills and focused study.

I have been interested in the art of German longsword fighting for a long time. This book has been very helpful for me to understand the detail of this art. However, there is one problem I want to say about the price of this book on Amazon. I think maybe it is because this book becomes rare nowadays that makes it quite expensive. Originally, the price marked on the book itself is just $24.95. However, right now (as in February 16, 2012), you will need to spend more than $100 to get a copy on Amazon. And, it looks like it is difficult to get a brand new copy nowadays. It is true that the information in this book is very valuable and it is very helpful for those who are serious with German Longsword fighting. However, while originally a brand new copy for this book is $24.95, you will need to spend more than $100 to get a used copy nowadays. I don't know what to say about this circumstance.

A great resource for those that don't have access to an instructor. The images and text are clear, and don't confuse the reader, as some other books tend to do.Just don't forget to end your opponent rightly.

About the Author
Vinayak Bharne is an urbanism and planning joint adjunct faculty member at the Sol Price School of Public Policy and the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles; and the director of design at Moule and Polyzoides Architects and Urbanists. He is the editor of The Emerging Asian City Concomitant Urbanities and Urbanisms (2012), and the contributing author of several books including Planning Los Angeles (2012) and Aesthetics of Sustainable Architecture (2011). Krupali Krusche is a preservation and architecture faculty member at the University of Notre Dame. As the head of the DHARMA (Digital Historic Architectural Research and Material Analysis) research team, specializing in 3D documentation of World Heritage Sites, she has studied and documented key monuments including the tombs and gardens along the Yamuna River in India, and the Roman Forum in Italy.

He has numerous publications in these areas. He has been involved in reservoir management projects in the US, UK, Cameroon, Denmark, Indonesia, Nigeria, Trinidad, and others.
In addition to his PennWell Publishing Company book on Computer-Assisted Reservoir Management (2000), he wrote Integrated Petroleum Reservoir Management (1994), and Integrated Water flood Asset Management (1998) books. PennWell Books is publishing his book on Practical and Enhanced Reservoir Engineering: Assisted with Simulation Software.Throughout his career he has been very active in technology transfer, teaching and training. He was responsible for developing and managing Texaco's successful Integrated Reservoir Management Training Program, drawing industry and academic attention..
